It only seems fit on national Waffle day to highlight one of the surprising stars of this year HBO Hard Knocks, Defensive line coach Mike Waufle. His brash but honest personality and pure passion for the game makes him a no doubt leader on the Defensive side of the ball.

Waufle is in his fourth season as the Rams’ defensive line coach, and 2015 marks the 18th season in which he’s coached the position at the NFL level. In his first 17 NFL seasons, Waufle’s teams have finished in the top 10 in sacks nine times, including the 2013 campaign when the Rams finished third in the category.

One of Mike’s biggest talents has been developing young talent right away. As seen with Robert Quinn in In 2013, the Rams ranked third in sacks as Quinn registered a new franchise-record 19 sacks en route to First-Team All-Pro, Pro Bowl, and Pro Football Writers of America’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Aaron Donald has been the latest of standout under Waufle producing back-to-back pro bowl trips in his first two years.

With the 2015-16 season just around the corner and the Rams are leaning heavily on their defense again this year. The question isn’t will this defense produce a pro bowl lineman, but more like how many? One thing we do know for sure- we have 3 more episodes to be entertain by Mike Waufle.
